Why Crate Training Isn’t Always Necessary
When Crate Training Isn’t Necessary:
- Calm, non-destructive dogs
- Dogs in fully dog-proofed homes
- Dogs with severe crate anxiety (rare, but real)
- People who prefer to use a playpen or gated room instead
Why Crate Training CAN Be Amazing:
- Creates a safe, cozy “den” where your dog can relax
- Helps with potty training (dogs avoid going where they sleep)
- Prevents destructive behavior when you can’t supervise
- Makes vet visits and travel WAY easier
- Reduces anxiety by giving your dog a predictable safe space
- Keeps them safe from chewing hazards, toxic items, etc.
If you do go with crate training, please remember, crates should NEVER be used for punishment.
It’s not about “crate or no crate.” It’s about creating a safe environment that your dog can relax in, crate, pen, room, whatever works for YOU and YOUR DOG. If you go with a crate, be sure to get one that suits both your dog and your needs!
I highly recommend a collapsable crate making it easy for home and travel usage! —> https://amzn.to/4e0zD9u
