Fall Leaves & Landmines

Are you someone who believes in Augtober? When August 1st comes around and your mind switches into Fall Vibes, even if the weather still says “dead of summer”? Well same! I love the summer heat and all, but only for so long. And living in a town that doesn't really have extreme weather in either direction, I crave Fall pretty early on in Summer.

Regardless if you’re team Augtober or not, Fall is approaching soon, and it’s good to get prepared!

As fall arrives, our yards transform with colorful leaves, crisp mornings, and plenty of time spent outdoors with our dogs. But all those beautiful leaves have a sneaky downside… They make it incredibly easy for dog poop to disappear until someone (human or canine) finds it the hard way.

When poop gets buried beneath leaves, it often sits unnoticed for weeks. Besides creating a messy yard, dog waste can carry bacteria and parasites that contaminate soil and can be spread to other pets through paws and noses. Rain can also wash those contaminants into nearby storm drains and waterways, making cleanup more important than many people realize.

A daily scoop is much easier than a weekend treasure hunt through piles of leaves. Trust me, my poor shoes have learned, even when you think you’re being careful not to step on any, you’ll still end up with doo on your shoe by the end.

Many pet owners, including myself, find that using a long-handled pooper scooper makes the job faster and so much nicer on my back (https://amzn.to/4cBfG7Q), especially as leaves begin covering the lawn.

As the leaves start falling this season, make it a habit to do a quick yard check before mowing, raking, or letting the kids and pets play outside. Your shoes, your lawn, and your furry friends will all thank you!

Pro tip: Keep your pooper scooper by the back door so it's easy to grab during every potty break, PLUS a can with a lid —> https://amzn.to/4qfw3g3. Nobody wants to keep smelling it after it’s been scooped.
