Pretty Nails with a Purpose

Keeping your dog’s nails trimmed for their own health and comfort is certainly important.

Equally beneficial for yourself, is taking that extra step to file your dog’s nails after being trimmed to keep them from scratching up you and your floors.

A dog’s nails after being trimmed can be quite sharp around the edges. It makes sense when using a flat edged nail trimmer on rounded nails.

So why are dogs nails typically rounded at the ends if we cut them with a flat edged clipper? Your dog’s nails get naturally filed down overtime as they walk on hard or rough surfaces.

So why do I even need to file my dog’s nails then? Good question!

Depending on where you and your dog live, and the lifestyle you live, these will affect how quickly your dog’s nail file down on their own.

For those of us who have thin skin, get scratched easily, or have floors we’d like to protect, manually filing those nails will make a world of difference!

There’s also dog’s who are unfortunately scared of getting their nails trimmed with a traditional nail trimmer. Using a Dremel to file their nails instead of with trimmers can help many dog’s feel safer and more comfortable!
